The MTA announced that beginning on Monday, Oct. 1, through Friday, Oct. 5, crews will be making safety upgrades and improvements to the Danbury Metro-North Branch. In response, buses will be substituting for select, off-peak weekday trains.
Between 9 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. each day, buses will substitute for all trains departing from Danbury to South Norwalk southbound, making all scheduled stops to South Norwalk. Buses operate up to 15 minutes earlier than normal train times and will connect with regularly scheduled trains at Stamford.
Between 7:30 a.m. and 4:10 p.m., buses will substitute for all trains departing from South Norwalk to Danbury north, making all station stops to Danbury. Buses will depart at regularly scheduled train times, but customers should allow for later arrival times.
Regular southbound train service is scheduled to resume on Friday, Oct. 5 with the 6:48 p.m. train from Danbury. Northbound service will be restored regularly with the 5:30 p.m. train from South Norwalk.
During the maintenance work, crews will be installing antenna police that are necessary to make Positive Train Control operational along the branch. Positive Train Control is “a technology designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents,” according to MTA.
Metro-North crews will also perform diesel fleet maintenance, install new railroad ties in Norwalk, remove old insulated joints, weld track and cut brush.
